Coffee Story:

This coffee is grown by small scale farmers comprising two separate Cooperatives working together, AECAR and UNION PRO-AGRO. These two cooperatives encompass nearly 400 farmers in the region of Caranavi. Both Cooperatives were founded on the principal of creating a market for small farmers, while focusing on maintaining and caring for the natural environment where they work and live. Caranavi, a small city in the Andes, is located about 6 hours from La Paz, the capital city of Bolivia. The contributing coffee farms are scattered throughout dozens of communities amongst the mountains and hillsides of Caranavi. It seems just short of a miracle that these farmers and coops can process their coffees so well in the altitude stricken weather they endure. After the coffee is processed, it is loaded onto trucks for a 6-8 hour smooth highway ride down the eastern slopes of the Andes. Until recent infrastructure upgrades, that journey down the mountain side to La Paz had been called the “Highway of Death” for its frequency of accidents and road section wash outs. We have been long awaiting a coffee from Bolivia to add depth to our menu of coffees. The nuances of this coffee are best tasted as a light/medium roast
