Coffee Story:

This coffee is produced by farmers located in Northern Peru, within the Provinces of Jaen and San Ignacio. These farmers are organized around the Cooperative Sol Y Café, established in 2008, having an average farm size of 7 acres (3 hectares) of planted coffee. Farmers harvest, pulp and wash their coffee on site at their farm, then deliver it to the nearest cooperative base. At the base the coffee is sorted for defects and dried on large patios in the sun. Afterwards, the coffee is transported to a central warehouse, where it undergoes more quality control and then is taken to a dry mill for final preparation before exporting to the int’l marketplace.

Diversification of income through other business development projects spearheaded by the cooperative include, rice and cacao cultivation, and a fishing business. Cooperative members also receive benefits of technical assistance and educational programs at the farm level, marketing and promotion of their coffee and other products.

Coffee grown in this region has been known for producing some of the highest quality coffees found in Peru. Many farmers from this area have received awards and accolades over the years in regional, national and world-wide competitions. This coffee has been processed by the fully washed method and is both certified organic and Fair Trade. These certifications exemplify a strong commitment of working together to reach goals, land stewardship and the promotion of social projects for strengthening the community and the environment that sustains them. Peru Sol Y Café has been roasted to showcase the regional attributes and nuances of this growing area that prevail through the flavors in the cup.
