Coffee Story:

This shade grown coffee is sourced from small family owned farms that are organized around Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples de Junio. This cooperative operates in the municipality of Las Sabanas within the department of Madriz, Nicaragua. Currently this coop has 127 members whom, on average, cultivate 5 acres of coffee annually.

This cooperative, known as 5 de Junio sees organically grown specialty coffee as the key to the development of its communities. The 5 de Junio Coop feels that their coffee embodies the best its community has to offer, positioned as one of Nicaragua’s finest growing regions, to the generosity, hard work and environmental ethic of its people. This coffee growing region has also been productive of Award Winning coffees through the Cup of Excellence program over the years – further exemplifying the shade growing tactics and rich terroir that encompass this area. In addition to coffee, income diversification has been further established by the cultivation and marketing of organic chia.

We are proud to have this coffee featured on our menu exemplifying nuances indicative of this area. We roast this coffee in both light and dark to showcase the full spectrum of flavors that are achievable through the roasting process – see tasting notes for further flavor exploration.
