Coffee Story:
High in the Cordillera de Tilaran mountain range of Costa Rica sits the small community of Monteverde. The cool temperate climate of the cloud forest combined with the high elevation and shade tree protection from the elements, allows this coffee to ripen slowly, developing its unique flavors and exuding quality.
Café Monteverde Miel is selectively harvested and then “honey” processed at the Santa Elena Beneficio. The honey process is a method in which the outer skin of the cherry is removed and the coffee is dried in a sticky honeylike layer, known as mucilage. As the beans dry, the varied amounts of mucilage surrounding the bean ultimately influence the sweetness and fruity undertones of the coffee.
With emphasis on conservation, education, and social programs in and around the Monteverde Cloud Forest of Costa Rica, Montana Coffee Traders gives a percentage back from annual sales to this coffee growing community.
